Measuring a Go-Kart Brake Band
There are different sizes of go-kart brake bands. Drum brake bands are usually four, five, or six inches wide.
The drum brake band diameter, not the length, is what determines the drum brake’s diameter. These all use drum brakes that vary in size.
You should know that drum brakes and brake band measurements always refer to diameter, never length.
Go-Kart Drum Brake Bands
As long as the brake drum is within the range of the three-band brake sizes (4′′, 5′′ and 6′′), the brake band fits around it. In that regard, be sure not to measure the length of the brake bands as this won’t work.

Brake rods sometimes have bent ends. Go Karts and minibikes use straight brake rods without bent ends, so you must attach the brake band using a Clevis pin.
As soon as the end hole of the brake rod meets the brake band’s loop, position it in the slot to ensure that the brake rod is in the slot. You can slide a flat washer through the brake rod and brake band entirely by placing it on the clevis pin.
Embrace the clevis pin with the cotter pin. Pull the cotter pin prongs apart and bend them backward. Testing the brakes is essential at this time. Turn the drive wheel while applying the brakes fully. Applied brakes cannot cause the drive wheel to turn.

Brake Band and Straight Rod Application

Brake Rod Adjustment
Essentially, the brake rod needs to be adjusted if the brake pads aren’t pressing hard enough to control the vehicle. Removing the fastener from the front end of the brake rod and reassembling the connection with the hole on the rear end makes it possible to shorten the brake rod.
