Go-Kart Belt Size Chart

The Ultimate Racing Go-Kart Belt Size Chart

The torque converter of your go-kart might not perform well if your belt wears out. In order for your go-kart to run smoothly again, you might have to replace its belt.

The chart shows all the most common Go-Kart torque converter belt sizes supplied by Comet. It also includes model, type, part number, pulley compatibility, outer circumference, and width at the top.

If you’re replacing an existing belt or setting up a new torque converter, you need this information.

How Do You Know What Go-Kart Belt You Need?

Pull the belt past the crankshaft after removing the cover from the driver pulley, ensuring a gap of approximately 1/8″ to 3/16″ between the crankshaft and belt.

Make sure the belt you’re using fits within this range. The life of a karting belt can range from years to hours.

  • Determine the type of belt needed.
  • Measure the diameter of the driven pulley.
  • Measure the center distance.
  • Check measurement against the belt size chart.

Understanding the Belt Size Chart

The size chart for the go-kart is essential, so you know precisely what belt you need before installing it on your kart. To help you understand everything, we will go through all the terms.

You should always verify the actual measurements directly with the manufacturer if the measurements in the chart are inaccurate.

Brand

Currently, this list only features torque converter belts from Comet, as they offer the largest selection and are widely available.

Model

Typically, model names identify a specific brand’s series. Here you can find the popular model from Comet. Each series contains multiple variants, which serve as groupings.

  • 20 Series
  • 30 Series
  • 40 & 44 Series
  • 500 Series
  • TC88 Series
  • CAT99 Series

Each part number represents a variant of the series. Go-kart belts, for instance, come in eleven different styles, each with its own size that corresponds to a separate torque converter.

Type

You can buy symmetric or asymmetric belts, depending on your needs. Torque converter belts have different designs depending on their cross-section.

If you look at the go-kart belt size chart above, you see a belt with an asymmetric design and note the outer edges are angled differently from a cross-section.

Both sides of a symmetrical go-kart belt have a 15 degree top angle. On one side, an asymmetric belt has an 18° angle, and on the other, a 2.5° angle. Depending on the model and design of your torque converter, you may have to change the belt type.

  • 20 Series belts: Symmetric
  • 30 Series belts: Asymmetric
  • 40 & 44 Series belts: Symmetric
  • 500 Series belts: Symmetric
  • TC88 Series belts: Symmetric
  • CAT99 Series belts: Asymmetric

Part Number

There are different belt dimensions for each belt model in a series. These dimensions depend on the distance from center to center (crankshaft to jackshaft), diameter and circumference of the driven pulley, and the top width.

If you’re searching for a specific belt, just refer to the part number. It is similar to an SKU number (Stock-Keeping Unit).

Pulley Diameter

The pulley’s outer diameter is usually larger than the diameter of the driver pulley attached to the jackshaft. The diameters of the driving pulleys that come with Comet go-kart belts are 6″, 7″, 7.5″, and 8.5″.

Outer Circumference

In torque converter belt terms, the outer circumference covers the belt. It is essential to measure the circumference around the belt from the outside, not the inside.

In the belt size chart, you can see that Comet offers belts with an outer circumference measurement ranging from about 22 inches to 45 inches or more.

Top Width

It is the width of the go-kart belt on the top side that determines the top width. Because of the uneven width of the top and bottom, the width of a belt typically measures from its top.

It is because of the angles on the asymmetrical and symmetrical belts. Therefore, any references to the width of a go-kart belt always refer to its widest area.
